Just over a month after they announced their return to the music scene, and just a few days before their first comeback gig on Friday 16 October, Blackhole have dropped a new 2 track EP via Soundcloud. The EP is available for free download until the 1st November, and lead track ‘Ghosts’ was picked up by Daniel P Carter for his Radio 1 Rock Show on Sunday. The two tracks are undeniably Blackhole, a nostalgic throw back to five years ago, but with one eye firmly on the future as well. The two tracks are both mid-paced affairs, more Punk-N-Roll than Hardcore, with great guitar licks, wandering basslines and simple, thumping drum patterns. Also, if this is possible, they almost have more swagger and more cockiness than the older Blackhole music. They have clearly developed as musicians while they have been away, but personally speaking, I’m still hoping for some of the speed and aggression of their older stuff to rear its ugly head for future material. That being said, I am on my fifth play through of the EP back-to-back, and I’m struggling to pick a favourite; ‘Ghosts’ may have the swagger, but the building crescendo of ‘Lustrum’ is utterly fantastic! One thing is certain, the upcoming tour supporting Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes is going to be utter carnage.
Welcome back once again lads, these tracks are definitely an exciting prelude. Keep ‘em coming… Hear the track ‘Ghosts’ below, and download the 2 track EP here
