What follows is a true story.
It’s been nearly a year in the making, but on Friday (25th September) Run The Jewels released their unique, cat-tastic remix project; Meow The Jewels. What started as a joke during the pre-orders for last years RTJ2 album has now become a real project. The joke was you could pre-order RTJ2, remixed and made entirely of cat noises. A fan (Sly Jones) thought that this was a fantastic idea and decided to create a Kickstarter campaign IRL. RTJ producer El-P said that if the money was raised he would seriously tackle the project. Obviously, cat-crazy-fans stumped up for the project ($45, 00) back in October 2014, and true to his word El-P and Killer Mike have subsequently delivered. The album features remixes from The Alchemist, Zola Jesus, Geoff Barrow from Portishead & 3D from Massive Attack to name a few, and is actually fully backed up with cat noises, on certain tracks cat samples actually form the entire beat. Some of the lyrics have also changed to be more cat orientated. The album is available as a free download here, but if you are serious about your cat-rap you can pre-order it on double vinyl here
