Now, depending on your cynicism - this may come as quite a surprise. On the 17th June, Nails released their third album ‘You Will Never Be One Of Us’ which was hailed by many as their career defining album. A move to Nuclear Blast Records, magazine covers, 10/10 reviews and a great Youtube series detailing the construction of the album all helped intensify the hype. Then came the album itself: In some instances more sleek and better produced, yet in other instances more heavy, brutal and pissed off than ever (which is quite a feat).
Nails looked set to get some fantastic recognition, and many of us were proud. Then came July. And in true Nails ‘Fuck you’ style, they cancelled all their upcoming tour dates. A promoter cited an ‘indefinite hiatus’. And the band? Radio silence. Nothing. Not a peep.
This obviously sent the internet geeks into a shit storm. There are looooooooong comment threads of entitled music fans demanding that they deserve an explanation. Some of the demands turning quite bitchy. And yet Nails still said nothing. Until now.
Announced on Wednesday by all three parties, Closed Casket Activities are set to release a split 7" featuring Nails and the also equally intense Full Of Hell. We have the release date, December 2nd, and the creepily awesome artwork. That's it. The comment threads are all full of comments trying to bait Nails into a response, people still desperate for some reasoning. Yet all three parties have kept their collective mouths shut. Because it doesn't matter. Bands can do what they want. Some cynics believe this was always the plan. A modern day PR stunt. I'm not buying that. I'm just happy as fuck that we get some more music that I can turn to after having 'one of those days' from two heavyweights of modern extreme music…
